Big Fish

Many years I read an article in Conde Nast Traveler about the North American penchant for biggest things.  As World’s Largest Things explains, this ranges from the World’s Largest Ball of Twine, or the World’s Largest Stack of Empty Oil Cans. There are things that used to be useful, but aren’t anymore, like the World's Largest Hand-Dug Well or World’s Largest Electric Shovel. There are big fiberglass statues of things that are ridiculously oversized, like the World’s Largest Badger or World’s Largest Donut.

I’ve seen some of these in my travels.  Detroit is home to the world’s largest cast metal stove (it sits in the State Fairgrounds) and Neillsville, Wisconsin, is home to the world’s largest fiberglass talking cow and world’s largest cheese (replica).  But what I’ve noticed in the last few years is the large number of big fish.  I’ve begun photographing them, and will add them to this page as I find them.

(Note: Australia has a similar passion for large fiberglass structures.  I’ve visited the Big Pineapple, and seen the Big Orange. I’ve been to the largest open pit mine, and the hottest town on earth.  It is a veritable cornucopia of “Most” and “Biggest” attractions.)
