Over Fathers’ Day weekend the Petrushas had a family get-together on Mackinac Island. Val had decided that he perfect 50th anniversary gift for my parents would be a weekend get-away on romantic (“Somewhere in Time”) Mackinac Island.  And then she decided that we should all go with them.

So we all drove up to Mackinaw City, from which we took a ferry to the island.  Mackinac Island, located between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan,  is a bit unique in that all forms of motorized transport (with the exception of golf carts on golf courses) are banned.  Bicycles and horse carts fill the roads of town.

We stayed at a group of condos far out from the main town.  Our days were spent preparing meals and eating, relaxing, bicycling, swimming in the pool (the lake was still quite cold) and touristing.  We visited town, and visited Fort Mackinac, with its re-enactments of battles and 19th century life.
